Parents and Children in God by Christ
Psalms 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
127:2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
****127:3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
127:4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
127:5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Colossians 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents ****in the Lord: for this is right.
Matthew 19:19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Ephesians 6:2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
Note that Ephesians 6:1 is a clarified emphasis on Colossians 3:20 and gives the definition of the kind of obedience one aught to have toward parental honouring saying to do so IN THE LORD. Take note that many people mistake that one aught to simply do whatever is commanded of them by the parent having skipped the involvement of the God that made them.
When Jesus said that he didnt come to bring peace but a sword on the earth and that relationships between parents and children as well as amongst siblings and in laws would be difficult, it is because of believing in Him having that there are some believing parents with non believing children, some believing children with non believing parents, as well as siblings who differ in what they believe between christ and the world of alternate beliefs.
For one to honour their parents they must honour the God that gave them those parents. There is in the world what is not good biblical parenting when it comes to principles that hinder the commandments of God.
For instance in Mathew 25 where the sheep and Goats are mentioned in helping the needy, those hungry, thirsty, naked, homeless, sick or imprisoned, parenting protocols and principles of the world discourage children from obeying God in sheep activity being those who do engage in such helps of sharing ones bread with the hungry(isaiah58) which welcomes one into Gods kingdom.
A good example one can imagine is where a mob boss sends his son to execute a murder in order to protect family business. One can see how this honouring of ones parent is not how most people encourage to entirely do whatever they are told with no questions asked. A non believing parent may pass on a lie to their believing children and it is no honouring IN THE LORD to continue the passing of it.
It is good to know such instruction comes with the rest of the scriptures having that the Parenting reffered to is of the same nature that God intends and not of the world.
